Serial projects, those where an information travels from person to person and is progressively modified until it reaches its final state, or a documentation of this transformation process, are the domain of the artists who believe in the potential of a collaborative and cooperative model and who put it in practice with personal strategies. Battery Operated set a brilliant example with this project that, as a way to record the journey of the information, adopted the shape of a realistically looking black box, like the ones mounted on airplanes to record their flight path. Painted red and named 'Parabox', it contained the choices of ten artists who expressed their favorite conspiracy theory with musical, video and written contributions. At the end of its journey, the box (after collecting the works of, among others, Richard Kirk, founder of the Cabaret Voltaire, and Frans De Waard, of Staalplaat) was sent back to the makers of this project, who remixed its contents to produce a musical and visual summary. The distance traveled by the box and its going from hand to hand makes the heterogeneous final result, visibly generated by different minds but with a sort of homogeneous style, even more appreciable. It's likely that its traveling, which allowed the materials to be physically collected, influenced this work, whose result is unified in its form, but collective in its substance.
