This book seem to be the first new media art book for the new media art unaware. It's a popular essential guide made out of a careful selection of 35 classic works. Most of them belong to the net art domain, but as a whole they represent a good compendium to start for an art person almost illiterate in new media. Despite some minor mistakes and the use of 2006 mac os x window frames in the screeshots, questionable as etymologically not appropriate, the authors did a good job especially, including and relating so often to references to historical works, really helping to contextualize digital artworks in art history. An excellent selection of quotes and a helpful update of the artwork's 'technique', listing every hardware and software technology used, are also worth to mention. Even in its less than one hundred pages, could we consider this book as a sort of 'New Media Art for Dummies'? Well, maybe, but with Taschen publisher style and guidelines.
