Shift, festival of Electronic Arts has started on 25 of October in Basel, in the Dreispitz industrial area. The theme is 'Access', that has many facets in the digital realm. The exhibition is hosting works by !Mediengruppe Bitnik, Beat Brogle, Raphael Cuomo + Maria Iorio, Graffiti Research Lab, ile flottante, Gülsün Karamustafa, Knowbotic Research, Marc Lee, Lana Lin, Jenny Marketou, Muntadas, Platoniq, Cornelia Sollfrank, Ubermorgen.com, Alessandro Ludovico, Paolo Cirio, Christoph Wachter and Mathias Jud. A small Access conference will be moderated by Georg Christoph Tholen that will also host lectures by Katharine S. Willis and Inke Arns. In the many night events, walking around containers, tracks and wharehouses, there's the premiere of the new Yves Netzhammer / Bernd Schurer animated video, Graffiti Research Lab performing outside on a big warehouse wall, and live concerts with José Navarro, Murcof, Coldcut, Brian Mackern and many others. Finally Migros awarded grants for productions in the field of digital culture, and just after the winners announcement, there'll be the keynote speech: “Digital Utopia – Art between the Poles of Technology and Society” by Andreas Broeckmann, Artistic Director of tesla media arts lab and former director of the transmediale, Berlin.
