CD - Zeitkratzer
Live sessions recorded at the Volksbühne am Rosa Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, during November 2005, and at the Donaufestival Krems, in Austria, the following year, are used here to compose the rarefied acoustic and digital sequences by Zeitkratzer. This is an ensemble founded by Reinhold Friedl, and is focussed on a very wide range of electronic sounds, both experimental and improvised. It is an avant-garde combo and includes among its members Keiji Haino, who skillfully articulates electronic interfaces, voice, guitar, drums and two theremins – reconciling the soloist and the atypical orchestra. These are virtuoso musicians who share in collaborative projects and complex interlacements of performatory strategies, adding trembling falsetto voices and drones, tonal modulations, and rhythmic overlaps, full of crackles and authorial emphasis. Subdued elaborations, dark and elegant, a painstaking exchange of different qualities gives rise to strange unions.
