Recorded live at the Lisbon's OFF Festival in May 2008, this collaborative project by Taylor Deupree and Kenneth Kirschner is specifically focused on the relationship resulting from the interaction between the sounds produced by an acoustic piano and those produced in subsequent laptop manipulation. The artists work side by side in real time creating microtonal modulations. The overall effect is a very delicate, leading to a kind of 'new piano classicism'. This conceptual approach is expanded in the omni-comprehensive and highly emotional structure of the different passages. These structures are minimal but sensitive, enigmatic and ambient, never reducing to a banal narrative. The ‘Quietist’ electronica is able to keep the tension high throughout the 36-minute performance, relying on a continuous and wrapping flow of sound. It's a consistent and elegant flow, intimate in the many forms shaped, with no strident changes or falls. An output whose acoustic-digital mixes are engaging and exciting, demonstrating the effective charge of ideas and textures, so well expressed by the duo.
