CD - Faitiche
Introspective, dreamy and dense sounds, intense but restrained, are intertwined in a very calibrated way in ‘Bird, Lake, Objects’. Using only one microphone to capture the whole ensemble (percussion and vibes by Masayoshi Fujita, electronic devices and laptops by Jan Jelinek), the work has been produced with an uncommon degree of sensitivity and fluidity. The Japanese master has to be commended for his non-conventional approach and elegant scores, while the record’s many subtle components are carefully modulated by Jelinek, an expert at bringing in the creaking sounds of a study chair (his favorite one) or background street noises and other environmental acoustic emergencies, modulated in a continuum not devoid of improvisational constructs. There are seven tracks included in this project and only one, "Stripped To RM", the second-last, is structured without any integration of field recordings, exhibiting a more granular and gently chaotic structure, before closing with the ethereal and lyrical "Ia_Ai".
