Merzbow, AKA Masami Akita, needs no introduction. This pioneer of "noise" is well-known in the international experimental scenes for his sophisticated yet raw, “free jazz” attitude. Balázs Pándi is also quite well-known in the more extreme avant-garde "enclaves" - especially for his collaborations with Venetian Snares and Otto Von Schirach, but also for his metal-breakcore electronica with Bong-Ra. In "Ducks: Live In NYC" the progressions - mostly inconsisting of harsh duets - get really hot, triggering a chain reaction of rhythms and frequencies, with restless free-form digressions that are very dynamic and never dull; feverish and vibrant. These sounds are not for everyone, this is obvious: it takes some guts to bear the many stinging passages of a performance not without harder moments and fuller sounds. We are presented with hypnotic and over-the-top postmodern contortions, stuffed with carpets of sound, while oblique forms of powernoise emerge from the jam session. Released for Ohm Resistance.
